Battersea Dogs & Cats Home appeared on two BBC programmes last Friday to discuss the cost of solicitors’ fees.
Legacy Manager Spencer Wisdom was interviewed by the two shows, and explained how Battersea is often left sums of money by generous supporters in their wills. In a minority of cases, the solicitors executing the wills charge fees which the Home feels are unreasonable. In these rare cases Battersea will challenge these costs.
Spencer explains: “It was fantastic for the BBC to include the Home in both programmes. They focused on an extremely important topic for us, as legacies are a vital source of income for Battersea.”
“In the small number of cases when we feel the solicitors’ fees are too high we will challenge them. We feel we have a duty to respect the wishes of the deceased and ensure the money they leave for the Home is spent on the dogs and cats in our care, and not on fees.”
You can listen to the You & Yours show here. http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p008fj52 Please note the section featuring Battersea is about 18 minutes and 40 seconds into the programme.
Working Lunch also filmed inside the Home, including in the kennels and cattery.
