Battersea Governance

Our committees and council play a vital role in ensuring that our work supports Battersea’s strategy and delivers the best possible impact on dogs and cats in the UK and around the world.

COUNCIL

The Council is the highest decision-making group of the charity. It is responsible for governance and oversees the activities of the Committees (listed below) it has final say on a number of our projects, programmes and strategies. Council is made up of the Chair, Vice-Chair, Treasurer (who are also referred to as honorary officers and can, jointly, make decisions as an Executive Committee of Council) and a number of Trustees. To help manage the responsibilities of Council, it has delegated some of its responsibilities to our Committees.

 

COMMITTEES

The role of Battersea Committees is to provide governance oversight for all aspects of Battersea’s work on behalf of the Council. Our committees play a vital role in ensuring that our work supports Battersea’s strategy and delivers the best possible impact on dogs and cats in the UK and around the world.

 

GLOBAL PROGRAMMES COMMITTEE

The Global Programmes Committee is responsible for overseeing the governance of the Global Programmes work including Grants, the Academy, research and strategic partnerships. The Committee provides a vital role in ensuring that all Global Programmes work supports Battersea’s strategy and delivers the best possible impact on dogs and cats in the UK and around the world.

FINANCE, AUDIT & RISK COMMITTEE

The role of this Committee is to oversee all financial aspects of Battersea. This committee oversees the risks and compliance of the charity to make sure that Battersea is complying with all financial aspects of the law, relevant regulations and good practice.

PEOPLE COMMITTEE

This committee is focused on the staff here at Battersea, it oversees our policies and processes in place and the overall approaches to people management to support the delivery of Battersea’s Strategic Plan, promoting an effective, high performing and diverse workforce and positive organisational culture.

This committee appropriate legislation and codes issued by the Charity Commission and advises the Council as to impact and any actions to be taken.

SUPPORTING BOARDS

These Boards have been established to bring together a group of experienced, senior level individuals from a cross section of sectors to use their expertise and networks to advance the aims and objectives of some of our big programmes. These Boards work in an advisory capacity to the executive team and do not have a formal governance role.
