Paul O’Grady
Paul O’Grady arrived in the world of entertainment via his alter ego Lily Savage. Born in Birkenhead, he moved to London to work as a social worker and began his comedy career on the pub and club circuit developing the ‘blonde bombsite’ character of Lily, who became well known on prime time TV with BBC’s The Lily Savage Show and ITV’s Lily Live as well as hosting Blankety Blank.
Paul began appearing as himself on TV in 2000, and won a Bafta for Best Entertainment Performance in 2005. His teatime show The Paul O’Grady Show became a firm favourite with viewers, and he went on to host prime time ITV chat show Paul O’Grady Live. He has his own show on Radio 2 on Sunday at 5pm. The third part of Paul’s autobiography will be out in October, and his new series Paul O’Grady: For the Love of Dogs, starts on ITV1 on Monday 3 September at 8pm.
He will be bringing Lily back out of the convent at Christmas to reprise her role as Widow Twankey in panto at the O2.
