Battersea Dogs & Cats Home is turning into ‘Cattersea’ this June to raise awareness of the fact that it also cares for cats and is building a new cattery.
The world-famous animal rescue centre, which is better known as a dog’s home than a cat rescue organisation, will carry out an advertising campaign throughout London and the surrounding area this June.
It is hoped that the campaign will encourage people to support the Home in building a new cattery for the thousands of cats it looks after each year. So, if you’re a commuter, you can watch out for our iconic ‘Cattersea’ posters on the Tube.
In the mean time, here are some statistics, which show that Battersea is just as much a cats’ home as it is a dogs’ home:
- Battersea has looked after 218,185 cats since it first started taking in cats in 1883
- The Home rehomes an average of seven cats per day to loving new homes
- In 2008 Battersea’s cats consumed 41,674 pouches of food in 2008
- In 2008 Battersea Dogs & Cats Home went though 51,500 litres of cat litter.
- The average stay for a cat at the Home is 27 days
Battersea is hoping to raise £1million to help build the new cattery, which is due to be finished in late 2010. For just £10 a month, you could become a member of our exclusive cattery club – by sponsoring a Cattery Kitty Kabin.
If you’d prefer to make a one-off donation £10 will pay for essential blood testing in the new veterinary facility while £25 will help vaccinate four cats against illness. £100 will help us to look after a litter of kittens until they're ready to be rehomed and £240 will equip four Kitty Kabins with everything needed to keep a cat happy and active.
