Breed Rescue

Breed rescue organisations are rehoming centres which deal with pure-bred dogs. They have extensive experience of their particular breed and, while the level of assistance may vary from rescue to rescue, they are usually happy to share this with would-be owners

At Battersea Dogs & Cats Home the Breed Rescue Co-ordinator liaises with breed rescue organisations over breed information and help in rehoming dogs which need owners with experience of specific breeds. For the majority of pure-bred dogs there is at least one breed rescue organisation working to rehome animals when their owners can no longer look after them or they are found as strays.

Many maintain websites, operate their own foster schemes and have a network of individuals who help rehome the dogs that come to them.

Some dogs require experienced owners while some people are only looking to rehome a specific breed, so working together gives us the opportunity to help the animals as quickly as possible. Finding the right match between dog and owner is essential.
