Good News Roundup - Friday 19th June
19 JUNE 2020
In these uncertain times, we’re sharing our weekly round-up of positive things happening at Battersea, as well as heartwarming dog and cat stories from the UK and beyond.
We know that animals can be a great source of comfort so we hope it adds a bit of cheer to your day.
Five year sentences introduced in Scotland!
We are delighted that the Scottish Parliament has this week agreed to increase the maximum sentence for animal cruelty to five years. This is great news for every dog and cat, and would not have been possible without the time and effort of each and every person who wrote to their MP or MSP.
Almost three years since Battersea started its campaign to change the law, the Bill was voted on in a socially distanced session in Scottish parliament and passed with 74 yes votes and zero 'no's. We'd like to say a huge well done to the Scottish Parliament for passing this important legislation for animals, and we will continue our campaign for five-year sentences in England and Wales.
High Fives all round!
If your pet has helped you through the last few months by making you smile why not show them your appreciation with a big high five by taking the Battersea Pet Trick Challenge! The concept is simple – record and share your pet giving you a high five, donate £5 to Battersea, and nominate five friends to take on the challenge.
Not only will you learn how to ace a high five with your pet, you’ll also help the rescue animals at Battersea still waiting for the chance to bring joy to a new family. All you need to do is: High Five. Donate Five. Tag Five!

Happy Birthday Mallow!
The beautiful (and yes, squishy!) young Mallow turned 1 this week and her foster carer Clem decided to spoil her rotten. Mallow enjoyed a day full of fun and frolics and we’re looking forward to sending her off to her new home to enjoy many more birthdays very soon.
