Pet owners are invited to Battersea Dogs & Cats Home's new one-stop shop event in Brixton this August.

On Friday 25 August, staff from the world-famous charity will be welcoming members of the public and their dogs for free veterinary health checks and advice. The event is held in partnership with Lambeth Borough Council, Neighbourhood Watch, the PDSA and Halfords. Battersea is also working with the Brixton Soup Kitchen, a service that assists the homeless.

Battersea staff will also be on hand offering free microchipping, over a year after microchipping dogs became mandatory for dog owners in the UK.

Owners can also get free engraved tags for their pets and vouchers for cat neutering.

Battersea’s Community Engagement van, which was funded by players of People’s Postcode Lottery, will be at Halfords in Effra Road, SW2 1BZ, from 11am to 3pm.

Battersea’s Head of Community Engagement, Sharon Kirk, said: “This is a great opportunity for pet owners to come along and take advantage of some expert advice and health checks for their animals. It’s all part of Battersea’s work to promote responsible pet ownership and the one-stop shop is designed to meet every pet owner’s needs. Working with our brilliant community partners like the Brixton Soup Kitchen really helps us reach more residents.

“Battersea doesn’t just rescue and rehome dogs and cats – we also spend a lot of time out in the community to help people learn more about looking after their pets, so do stop by when we’re out and about in Brixton and feel free to bring your dog.”
