More about MARLEY

Marley is a highly active, bright and has the brain of a working dog, and has a number of behaviours that will need consistent management in his new home.

He has consistently shown obsessive behaviours in the form of chasing shadows and light; although he is responding positively to training put in place, this will need to be continued in his new home. It is important for owners to realise that this behaviour may never be stopped and it will likely be a case of managing at home and adjusting his environment to minimise triggers for him.

Marley is friendly with people and enjoys a short fuss but he's far too busy to sit still for long. He is playful with toys and particularly likes games with tennis balls. He is also playful with other dogs but can sometimes forget his manners and become over-excitable. He may be able to live with an existing dog in his new home; any dog he lives with must be a confident adult who will be tolerant of an energetic and full-on dog.

Marley is looking for very experienced owners who have owned and trained high-drive dogs previously. His needs far exceed those of a typically active Spaniel and he will not be content with a few long walks a day - he needs his mind to be kept constantly engaged and, without this, he will find his own ways to amuse himself which will result in undesirable behaviours. The right environment is also important for Marley and he needs to live in a quieter location away from roads. He is quite scatty and busy on lead, pulling strongly, but with training put in place and practised on every walk he is walking next to people on command and then has a signal to move away to sniff and explore.

He has made some good progress at Battersea and has shown to be responsive to training. For owners looking for more of a challenge, Marley will be very rewarding- whoever rehomes him must be very committed to helping him.
