About us

We aim never to turn away a dog or cat in need of help. We reunite lost dogs and cats with their owners; when we can’t do this, we care for them until new homes can be found for them; and we educate the public about responsible pet ownership. Every year the Home cares for over 10,600 dogs and cats.

All about Battersea

In 2010 Battersea Dogs & Cats Home marked its 150th anniversary. To celebrate this momentous occasion it hosted a wide variety of special events throughout the year.

Since being established in 1860 the animal rescue organisation has cared for over three million animals. Today, with 150 years of experience behind it, the Home is one of the UK's most famous and longest-serving charities, and is proud to be London’s leading animal rehoming centre.

Among the host of exciting events which marked the anniversary year was the launch our special commemorative book 'A Home of Their Own'. The fascinating hardback revisits the history of the Home and recounts the adventures of some of its most memorable residents.

Battersea's story continues, and we’re always eager to hear about your part in it. So if you have a good tale about a pooch you've rehomed from the Home or a Battersea Moggie that’s done something special then please share it with us by visiting Your stories online.
