More about ARTHUR

Golden boy Arthur is a sweet but sensitive lad who came to us via an experienced breed rescue, who had rehomed him twice previously. Sadly, neither home had been successful for Arthur and the rescue felt that Battersea would be better resourced to be able to support his ongoing behavioural and training needs.

Arthur loves to play with his toys and enjoys gentle, tactile fuss - especially a chest rub! He likes food and will work well for kibble, which has been very helpful for his training. Arthur is a strong boy but does walk well on a harness and he generally shows sociable behaviours around other dogs.

Although wonderful, Arthur may not be quite what most people would expect when they think of Golden Retrievers. He has shown overstimulated behaviours towards his owners in all of his previous homes. These behaviours typically occur when Arthur is unsure about a situation, or experiencing moments of higher arousal. He responds well to a calm and considered approach and requires guidance and understanding in these moments.

Arthur needs a settled and quiet adult-only household without other pets. His owners will ideally be naturally calm and patient in their demeanour, as this does seem to help him when he experiences his more overstimulated moments. They should have demonstrable experience in proactively and appropriately managing overstimulated behaviours and sensitive dogs previously and understand these behaviours will likely occur while he settles in.

Arthur will also need house training and work on his car loading, as he is quite worried of getting into the car. He needs to live in an out of city location with adequate exercise areas within walking distance due to this.
