More about Joey

Joey arrived at Battersea with some of his siblings from another rescue. We have no information on their history.

Joey, like all his siblings, really struggled to adjust to the London site, especially in the first three days. Joey was very worried and didn't want to go outside, he also would shy away from people outside and inside his kennel but never escalates his behaviour. However, Joey has proven to be one of the most confident of his siblings! He has quickly turned a new leaf and shown us his playful affectionate nature. Joey still will need time to warm up at his own pace.

Joey really enjoys the company of other dogs and gets a lot of confidence from them. He has briefly shown some playful behaviours but has also told off other dogs for being too much. He enjoys a steady walking friend who can offer gentle play.

Understandably, Joey was very unsure and worried around any sort of handling due to lack of positive exposure in this area. He will need his new owners to be patient and dedicated to his confidence building which may take some time for him to be somewhat comfortable with.

Joey hasn't seen much of the outside world and can be easily spooked by new things in the environment or lead pressure. He has improved in heaps and bounds since he arrived and now is quite excited to go outside and enjoys exploring and sniffing about. He can still put on the brakes at times but will move on with encouragement. He gets confidence from his people and dog friends.

Joey is looking for an adult home with a private garden, and one which is away from the hussle and bussle of the city. He is also going to need a new family who are dedicated and happy to commit the time needed to help him settle into a new environment and build his confidence which is desperately needed. He is looking for owners with some previous experience with anxious dogs who are confident in reading dog body language and advocating for him.
