More about WELLIE
Wellie is a charismatic Lurcher looking for experienced owners to help give him the guidance he needs. He is based at our Old Windsor centre.
With people he knows, Wellie is delightful and is very affectionate, trying to be a lap dog if he can, however he can be less confident with those he does not know and this has led to him having some reactions to people. In his previous home, Wellie was housetrained and loved travelling in the car, where he would settle down for a snooze on longer journeys.
Walking past other dogs is an area that Wellie sometimes struggles with, and he can be vocally reactive, especially when passing them at close proximity. He has done so well at picking up the training that we have put in place, and this helps to keep him relaxed and gives his owners something to help him in stressful situations- one of his favourite things is to show off his 'middle' when he walks between someone's legs and can then watch dogs from a safe space. He has made some dog friends here and his owners will need to consistently help Wellie around dogs, knowing that he can happily greet some but then may struggle with others at times. He needs to live as the only dog in his new home.
Wellie struggles most in very busy places and with dogs and people walking past him very closely, so he'd be best suited to living away from a busy location and will need quieter walking areas. He'll need his own garden for off lead exercise as, due to his breed and behaviours around some dogs, he'll need to be kept on lead on walks.
Whilst Wellie is not particularly motivated by toys, he loves food and enjoys working out puzzles to find his food, which is a great way to keep him occupied.
Staff here adore his quirky personality and he'll be a great training friend for experienced owners.
