More about Alex
Meet our sensitive boy Alex,
Alex arrived at Battersea with seven of his siblings from another rescue. We have very limited information on their history, but they behave similarly to puppy farm dogs and have shown to be very under-socialised.
Alex, like all his siblings, really struggled to adjust to the London site. Alex is still very worried and doesn't always want to go outside, he also would shy away from people outside and inside his kennel. It has been a bit of a slow burner with Mr. Alex, though he is slowly making small improvements.
Understandably, Alex was very unsure and worried around any sort of handling due to lack of positive exposure in this area. He will need his new owners to be patient and dedicated to his confidence building which may take some time for him to be some somewhat comfortable with. His new owners will need to have a hands off approach and let Alex build trust over time.
Once bonded, Alex is an excitable and happy boy and he relies on his known people for reassurance and guidance. He retreats to his known people when he is unsure. He bounces up and seeks attention with his favourite people. Once you have earned Alex's trust, you will become his safe place and companion for life.
Alex likes the company of other dogs and gets some confidence from them. He can be quite a lot in off lead socials so may be too much for another dog in the home at the moment, but would love local friends to interact with.
Alex hasn't seen much of the outside world and can be easily spooked by new things in the environment or lead pressure. He will still put on the brakes majority of the time and will need a lot of reassurances to get him moving. For this reason, he will need a secure private garden so that he can have an outdoor space where he can build his confidence and train with minimal distractions.
Alex is going to need a new family in an adult-only household who are dedicated and happy to commit the time needed to help him settle into a new environment and build his confidence which is desperately needed. He is looking for owners with previous experience with anxious or fearful-reactive dogs who are confident in reading dog body language will be able to advocate for him throughout his adjustment period in a new home.
