More about DAVE

Meet our delightful Dave.

Dave came to us as a stray, so we sadly have no history for the 18 months of his life.

Since arriving here at Battersea, he has shown himself to be a real sweetie who loves to be around people, getting all the cuddles he can get. He has been struggling with kennel life, vocalising at his kennel door when hearing others around him, so will need some help settling into his new home.

Dave has been quite an independent boy during his dog interactions, happily pottering around on his own after after an initial friendly greeting. He can also be playful, although this has led to him being sexual on occasion and trying to mount the other dog.

Staff are working on his lead walking skills and associating him to a head collar, as he can be strong. Dave is over the 50kg mark, so his new owners must be able to physically handle him. He will also require work on his recall & handler focus, which will need to be continued at home.

Dave has been rehomed once before, but had to be returned due to being incompatible with the existing animals in the home (rabbits and a cat). His previous home absolutely adored him and also mentioned that he was an amazing and well behaved boy! He was good with people he didn't know, keen to say hello and nice and friendly, though could be a little cheeky and stole a couple of teddy bears to play with.

Dave is looking for a new home with a secure garden, in any location, with new owners who are experienced in caring for large, guarding breeds. His potential new owners must be willing to put in the time and effort to help him settle into his new life and routines, alongside the training he will require moving forward.
