More about Dexter
Meet Dexter!
Handsome Dexter is a bright, affectionate German Shepherd looking for experienced owners who understand the breed and are ready to help him thrive.
Before arriving at Battersea, Dexter enjoyed a loving home environment. Unfortunately, kennel life has been quite challenging for him, particularly at our busy London site where he has found the noise and constant activity difficult to cope with. Because of this, Dexter is looking for a home in a quieter countryside or rural location where he can enjoy a calmer pace of life and feel more relaxed in his surroundings.
Despite the challenges of kennel life, Dexter's wonderful personality shines through every day. Without fail, he greets his favourite people each morning with a toy proudly carried in his mouth and a wagging tail, bringing smiles wherever he goes. He loves toy play, enjoys spending time with his people, and has shown a real talent for search games, which are a fantastic outlet for his clever Shepherd brain.
Dexter is a very social boy with people and loves human company. He is known for his gentle greetings and will often lean into his handlers for affection and fuss.
While Dexter has previously lived with other dogs, he currently finds unfamiliar dogs difficult and can be reactive when meeting them. Our team has been working hard to help him build positive associations, including muzzle training and carefully managed introductions to a small circle of dog friends. His new owners will need to be committed to continuing this training and supporting him as he develops his social skills around other dogs.
Dexter would benefit from owners who are confident handling large, powerful dogs and who are familiar with typical German Shepherd behaviours. While he can walk beautifully on lead at times, he is a strong dog and will need physically capable owners who can manage him comfortably.
In return, Dexter offers endless loyalty, affection, and companionship. With patient, understanding owners, a peaceful environment, and continued training, we believe Dexter will make an incredibly rewarding companion. At the end of a busy day, he's happiest enjoying some toy play, spending time with his favourite people, and settling down with a tasty chew in a cosy spot of his own.
