More about HERBIE

Herbie is a Belgian Shepherd (not a breed for unexperienced owners) who was found as a stray with his sibling, leaving us without any background on his life before arriving at Battersea. The two were separated upon intake and appear to be adjusting well apart.

Given his young age & lack of history, we cannot determine his level of socialisation. His vaccination status has also limited his interactions with other dogs. When introduced to a larger, playful breed, he exhibited signs of anxiety, so he will need continued constructive socialising to help with his confidence.

Belgian shepherds are high energy dogs, who need a lot of mental & physical stimulation so the breed should not be taken lightly. Though Herbie has shown to be a little more laid back, his breed traits could still shine through as he grows and matures. He is equally very young and his training and socialising at this age is vital for him becoming an all rounded confident adult. Herbie would best thrive in an active home where he can go on long walks and indulge on agility & obedience training. His owner must have some experience or good understanding of the breed.

Herbie could potentially live with a very steady role model dog that would give him space initially to build his confidence and could live with sensible teens that can take part in his training. Due to his age & breed he will need a secure garden for training & would benefit from an area with quieter walking routes whilst he builds up his confidence around dogs.
