HRH Prince Michael of Kent GCVO

President

As President of Battersea since 1984, His Royal Highness Prince Michael of Kent is committed to the welfare of animals.

An active supporter of the charity and previous proud Battersea dog owner, Prince Michael is  a frequent visitor to Battersea’s three centres,  joining HM Queen Elizabeth II, on her visits in 1986, 1991 and 2015 He also officially opened the Cattery at Battersea Old Windsor.  The Kent Building at Battersea’s London site is named in honour of our President and, following an extensive refurbishment which was completed in 2022, he again visited in May 2022 to reopen this building.

Speaking of the charity His Royal Highness said: “Regrettably, there are still, and possibly always will be, far too many stray or unwanted animals in Battersea’s care. Fortunately, many animal lovers continue to come to Battersea to find their perfect pet. I was able to do so myself and could not have wished for a better companion."

Her Majesty The Queen

Patron

Her Majesty The Queen was officially announced as Battersea’s Royal Patron on 1 February 2017. Her Majesty’s association with Battersea dates back to October 2010 when she visited the charity’s London centre to open its state-of-the-art Cattery and commemorate Battersea’s 150th anniversary.

A huge animal lover, Her Majesty rehomed two Jack Russell Terriers from Battersea, Beth in August 2011 and Bluebell in September 2012. Beth was handed in to Battersea by a family who could no longer care for her, whilst poor Bluebell was just 4 weeks old when she was dumped in a London park, starving, shivering and suffering from a terrible skin condition that had left her almost bald.  It was love at first sight and Her Majesty opened her home to these two colourful characters. Sadly, Her Majesty had to say goodbye to Beth in November 2024, when her beloved pet passed away.

Her Majesty is a huge supporter of the charity and has visited Battersea on a number of occasions. Two of these visits have appeared on ITV’s award-winning series on Battersea, Paul O’Grady: For the Love of Dogs. In September 2016 Her Majesty opened the charity’s new Veterinary Hospital and Centre of Excellence, in February 2017 she visited Battersea Old Windsor, and in February 2022 she visited Battersea Brands Hatch to meet the staff, volunteers and animals.
