The ‘Purr Minister 2023 Election’ (“Poll”) runs from 12:00 GMT on 7 September 2023 to 09:00 GMT on 26 October 2023 (“Poll Period”) and is being promoted by Battersea Dogs & Cats Home (“Promoter”).
1. HOW TO PARTICIPATE
No purchase necessary. To enter the Poll email a 50-word description of why your cat should be Purr Minister 2023, a short (30 seconds or less) video of your cat, and at least one picture of your cat to purrminister@battersea.org.uk by 17:00 on 21 September.
2. POLL PERIOD
To be valid, entries must be emailed after 12:00 GMT on 7 September 2023 and before 17:00 GMT on 21 September 2023.
3. ELIGIBILITY
3.1 Poll is open to all MPs and Lords currently serving in the UK Parliament. Employees and volunteers of the Promoter, its affiliates, as well as such employees’ and volunteers’ immediate family (father, mother, brother, sister, son, daughter) or persons living under the same roof are not eligible to enter this Poll.
3.2 Limit of one entry per person.
3.3 The photograph and video entered must be of their own cat and the Promoter reserves the right to use reverse image search if it suspects authenticity. Any fraudulent pictures will be disqualified.
3.4 Due to concerns over health and welfare concerns associated with certain types of cat, the following are ineligible:
- Scottish Folds
- Munchkin Cats
- Savannah Cats and other F1 and F2 hybrids
4. PROCEDURE FOR AWARDING PRIZES
4.1 On 26 October 2023, Battersea Dogs & Cats Home employees will select the final entries for a shortlist, which will be put to a public vote to determine one overall winner. Shortlisted entries may be required to provide further photographs of their cat.
4.2 The Promoter will make all reasonable effort to notify those who have been selected for the shortlist and an overall winner. If an overall winner cannot be reached within seven days following the first attempt of contact, declines the prize, or fails to provide valid contact details, the prize shall be forfeited and Battersea Dogs & Cats Home has the right, at its sole discretion, to award the prize to a runner-up. No extension is available.
4.3 The Promoter’s decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into.
5. PRIZE(S)
5.1 The winning cat will be crowned Battersea Dogs & Cats Home’s Purr Minister 2023 and be included in post-event publicity, which we will also ask their owner to feature in. This could include, but does not guarantee, PR, inclusion on the Battersea website and features on Battersea’s social media channels including Facebook, X (formerly Twitter), Tiktok, LinkedIn, Pinterest and Instagram. Collateral of the winner may also be used to promote the Poll in future contests with their permission.
5.2 The prize is strictly non-transferable.
5.3 Refusal to accept the prize releases the Promoter from any obligation toward the winners.
5.4 Any prizes will be delivered to the winners by first class post within 30 days of redemption of the prize. The Promoter does not take any responsibility for parcels which are lost or stolen.
6. GENERAL RULES
6.1 By entering the Poll as outlined in Clause 1 above, all entrants will grant Battersea a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free right to use, reproduce, modify, adapt, and publish in perpetuity, each image and video entered into the Poll. Any videographer or photographer will retain copyright and moral rights in their submitted images and videos and the copyright holder will be credited wherever practicable, when the image and video is used and published by Battersea. Although Battersea Dogs & Cats Home will always supply the correct information to third parties (for example to press/media), it cannot accept responsibility for any credit line errors or omissions by these parties.
6.2 By entering the Poll you understand that the winner will be chosen by members of the public from a shortlist determined by Battersea employees. Members of the public will be able to view submitted photos and videos on the Battersea website in order to cast their vote.
6.3 By entering the Poll and sharing a photo and video as outlined above, the winners are declaring his/her eligibility as stipulated in these rules; agreeing that his/her name, image and/or voice may be used for advertising or publicity purposes related to this Poll free of charge; releasing the Promoter from all liability for any damage or loss arising from participation in this Poll or from the awarding, acceptance or use of the prize.
6.4 The Promoter reserves the right to request the winners to provide proof of identity in order to claim a prize. Proof of identification considered suitable for verification is at the discretion of the Promoter. In the event that a winner cannot provide suitable proof, the winner will forfeit the prize in whole and no substitute will be offered.
6.5 The Promoter assumes no liability for any loss, damage or injury, including without limitation: (i) lost, stolen, delayed, damaged, misdirected, late, destroyed, illegible or incomplete entries; (ii) loss, theft or damage to software or computer or telephone data, including any breach of privacy; (iii) fraudulent calls; (iv) inability of any person to participate in the Poll for any reason including mistaken addresses on mail or email; technical, computer or telephone malfunctions or other problems with computer online systems, servers, access providers, computer equipment, or software; congestion on the internet or at any website, or any combination of the foregoing; (v) damage to any person’s computer, including as a result of playing or downloading any material relating to the Poll; (vi) any delay or inability to act resulting from an event or situation beyond their control, including a strike, lockout or other labour dispute at their location or the locations of the organisations and businesses whose services are used to administer this Poll; or (vii) prizes that are lost, damaged or misdirected during postage shipping.
6.6 The owner of the winning cat will also be invited for a tour of Battersea Dogs & Cats Home’s London centre. In the event of unforeseen circumstances, the Promoter reserves the right to, in exceptional circumstances, amend or foreclose the promotion without notice. No correspondence will be entered into.
6.7 Battersea Dogs & Cats Home reserves the right to cancel or suspend this Poll should a virus, bug or other cause beyond their reasonable control corrupt the security or proper administration of the Poll. Any attempt to deliberately damage any website or to undermine the legitimate operation of this Poll is a violation of criminal and civil laws. Should such an attempt be made, Battersea Dogs & Cats Home reserves the right to seek remedies and damages to the fullest extent permitted by law, including criminal prosecution.
6.8 The processing of personal data will be subject to the Data Protection Act 2018. All personal information, such as name and contact information, is collected by the Promoter for the purposes of administering this Poll and will be deleted once the Poll is finished and the winner has been notified. The Promoter will use any data submitted by entrants only for the purposes of running the Poll, unless otherwise stated in the entry details. Please see the Promoter’s Privacy Policy for a full statement on the use of your data.
6.9 All entries that are incomplete, illegible, damaged, have been submitted through illicit means or do not conform to or satisfy any condition of the rules may be disqualified by the Promoter. The Promoter is not responsible for any errors or omissions in printing or advertising this Poll.
6.10 The Promoter reserves the right to amend the Poll rules or to terminate the Poll at any time without any liability to any entrant. Any amendments to these Poll rules will be posted on the website.
6.11 By entering, you agree to abide by the Poll rules and the decisions of the Promoter, whose decisions are final and binding on all entrants. Rules are available on the website throughout the duration of the Poll.
6.12 To obtain the names of the shortlist and overall winner, please visit https://www.battersea.org.uk/purr-minister-2023 after 26 October where they will be available to view for a period of 30 days after this date. The winner’s name and photo(s) and video may also be promoted publicly in any publicity relating to the Poll.
6.13 By entering the prize draw each entrant agrees to be bound by these terms and conditions.
