Social Media Community Guidelines

Social media is an important way for us to share our expertise, connect with our supporters, and share the stories of the dogs and cats who need us. It’s also a place for people to share their own experiences – whether they’ve rehomed a dog or cat, taken part in an event or fundraised for us.

No matter the topic of discussion, it’s important to us that our social media channels are a safe and inclusive space. To make this possible, we ask that you follow these guidelines when interacting on our social media channels.

These guidelines apply to our social channels (such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn and TikTok) as well as our online communities (such as our Foster Carer Facebook Group). In addition to these guidelines, you should also adhere to the terms and community guidelines set by the social platforms themselves.

1. DON'T SHARE PERSONAL INFORMATION

Battersea’s social media channels are open to the public, and anything posted on those channels can be seen and read by everyone. Please refrain from sharing any personal or confidential information when interacting on our channels, and only post content you’re happy to be in the public domain.

2. STAY ON TOPIC

We encourage discussion on our social channels – it helps us connect with you, our supporters. Please make sure your comments relate to the topic of discussion, and refrain from posting content which may be considered:

  • Spam content
  • Third-party marketing or promotional materials
  • Off-topic comments

3. BE KIND TO EACH OTHER

Please be kind and courteous. We will not tolerate any form of harassment or abuse. We will not tolerate comments which:

  • Are abusive or threatening towards others
  • Are hateful or discriminatory based on race, sex, religion, nationality, disability, sexual orientation, gender reassignment, age or other protected characteristics
  • Contain profanities or content of an obscene or distressing nature
  • Are sexually explicit or pornographic
  • May be considered fraudulent, deceptive, misleading or unlawful
  • Contain any defamatory or libellous remarks
  • Attempt to solicit personal or sensitive information from others

4. ONLY SHARE CONTENT YOU OWN

Only post content (such as images or video) that you own, or if you have the proper permission from its rightful owners. Where we suspect content infringes copyright, or intellectual property rights, we will remove that content.

OUR MODERATION POLICY

DELETING POSTS AND BLOCKING USERS

Comments or posts which do not meet these guidelines will be removed. We reserve the right to block or ban users who violate these guidelines from our channels at our discretion – for example, those who repeatedly post spam content, or who threaten other users.

USE OF AUTOMATIC FILTERS

We use filters (for example, on Facebook) to automatically hide comments which contain profanities or obscene remarks.

MODERATION HOURS

Battersea’s social channels are monitored daily, with reduced hours on weekends on bank holidays. Due to the volume of comments we receive, it may take a couple of hours for us to respond to comments, or to remove comments which violate these guidelines. We also work with external partners to help us moderate and respond to queries.

REPORTING CONCERNS

If you see a comment on our social channels that you suspect violates these guidelines, or if you are messaged by a member of the community in a way that violates these guidelines, you can report it to us by emailing socialmedia@battersea.org.uk. Please include a link to the post.

DISCLAIMER

Battersea is not responsible for third party websites (such as Facebook) or content that may be linked to from our social channels. Because our channels are public and anyone can participate, we cannot be responsible for views expressed other than our own.

Regretfully, admins of this page cannot accept friend requests.
