Sweet Akita cross, Bear, was found as a stray with his brother when they were just four-months old. Initially, gentle Bear was a little worried about meeting other dogs and of big groups of people. But with the help of our expert canine behaviour team (and lots of chicken treats), his confidence soon began to grow.
Through patient care and positive experiences, Bear became comfortable socialising, training and engaging with fun enrichment activities like puzzle feeders and snuffle mats. Our dedicated team took the time to understand what made him happiest and watched him blossom into the friendly, affectionate dog he is today.
Once he settled in at our London site, Bear’s bright and bubbly personality shone through, quickly capturing the hearts of everyone he met. Bear became known for his love of making friends and was given a stylish bandana to wear from our team that read, "I'm everyone’s friend".

Thanks to our wonderful supporters, it wasn’t long before we found Bear a loving home with his new family, where he now enjoys life to the fullest with his best friend, Millie the cat.
Bear’s new owner Lily says:
"As a family that has loved many rescue animals over the years, we were looking for a dog who would get along with our two rescue cats. We knew Battersea was the best place to rehome from as they put the animals first and would support us every step of the way. They introduced us to Bear, and we fell in love. Bear had two hobbies at Battersea that he continues to enjoy: listening to music with his teddies and discovering new flowers to sniff! We couldn’t be more grateful to Battersea for our big-hearted Bear and all the happiness he brings to us and everyone he meets.”
