Binks' Story

16 Apr 2026

British Shorthair Binks arrived at Battersea as his owner was unable to afford the extensive vet treatment that he needed. British Shorthair cats are flat‑faced, or brachycephalic, meaning that they have been bred to have extremely squashed faces, with very short noses and wide, rounded heads. While these features may seem cute or expressive, they can cause lots of preventable health issues for these cats, including bulging eyes, dental issues, Brachycephalic Obstructive Airway Syndrome (BOAS) and facial skin folds that are vulnerable to infection.

Poor Binks’ face was extremely flat, and as a result he had an underbite and protruding lower teeth. His jaw deformity had also contributed to his severe dental disease, and he needed major dental surgery to remove fifteen of his teeth.

After three and a half months at Battersea, Binks charmed his new owner, who absolutely adores him. Binks quickly settled into his new home, where his owner understands the breed related issues he may face and is prepared for the care he’ll need throughout his life.
