Charlie’s Battersea Journey

24 Feb 2026

Charlie, an 18-month-old cross breed, came to Battersea after he was found as a stray. Upon his arrival, Charlie spent much of his time laying down, and it was clear that he was in pain when walking.

Our skilled veterinary team found that Charlie had severely restricted hip movement and extensive muscle wastage to his legs. Further X-rays confirmed that he had a condition that affected his joints and would need vital surgery to give him the best chance at a better life.

When you leave a gift in your Will to Battersea, you help ensure a future where we can be there for dogs and cats when we’re needed most.

As brave Charlie settled in at Battersea, he began a steady course of pain relief, physiotherapy, hydrotherapy and joint supplements to prepare for his operation, which was a success. He continued an extensive rehabilitation plan to recover and rebuild the muscles in his legs and made excellent progress.

After almost eight months of rehabilitation, Charlie found a home with a loving new family who adore him and describe him as their ‘ray of sunshine’.

Charlie is just one of the animals whose life changed for the better at Battersea. At the heart of these second chances are gifts in Wills, which fund over 40% of our work.
