Meet Fontaine and the Kittens

04 Mar 2026

One year old Fontaine came into Battersea heavily pregnant after being found straying in the garden of a kind member of the public.

Soon after arriving, Fontaine was checked over by Battersea’s skilled clinic team and immediately placed in a quiet birthing pen in the Cattery’s Maternity ward, as it was apparent that she was going to give birth soon. Fontaine was given a special pen, with a nesting area, so that she could settle in and prepare for the birth of her kittens in peace.

Battersea Cattery’s Maternity ward is kept extra quiet, with only vital care staff allowed, so that expectant mothers can rest and, after giving birth, tend to their kittens with as little stress as possible. The cat pens are set up without climbing areas, so that inquisitive newborn kittens do not come to harm.

Five days after her arrival, Fontaine gave birth to a litter of kittens, named Macaron, Madeleine, Crème Brûlée and Fondant. Fontaine was an attentive mum, who took excellent care of her brood. The young feline family were sent to an experienced foster home, so that Fontaine could raise her kittens in a tranquil environment and they could get used to all the sights and sounds of a home.

The kittens thrived and as they grew, they regularly got into lots of mischief, before falling asleep in a heap on their foster carer’s sofa.

The kittens were a little timid at first, but with their foster carer’s dedication, they became bolder.

As soon as they were old enough, the kittens found homes and after a little alone time, Fontaine found a new loving home too. Her new family adore her gentle, purring ways.
