When French Bulldog Gnocchi arrived at Battersea, it was clear that he was struggling to breath normally. He was suffering with Brachycephalic Obstructive Airway Syndrome (BOAS), a breathing condition that is common in flat faced dogs. Dogs with BOAS tend to have small nostrils, narrow windpipes and soft palates that block the airway.
Gnocchi had surgery to widen his nostrils and try to improve his airway. The surgery helps to improve his breathing and quality of life. However, he will face lifelong health issues due to his breed. Gnocchi will need to be kept cool in warmer weather, as his flat face and breathing difficulties make him at risk of overheating. He will also need to stay a healthy weight to avoid extra pressure on his airways. Thankfully, Gnocchi found a loving new home who understand his extra needs and let him live life at his pace.
