Koala's Story

26 Jan 2026

11-year-old Domestic Shorthair cat, Koala, arrived at Battersea last year after his owner sadly passed away.

It was a big change for Koala, and initially, he struggled to adjust to life in the Battersea Cattery. Thanks to our supporters, we were able to create the right care plan for him and arranged for Koala to spend some time with one of Battersea’s dedicated foster carers. Whilst Koala was not used to a cattery, he was familiar with a home environment, and being back in one allowed him to settle and rebuild his confidence.

After one month in his foster home, Koala began to feel brave again and showed us his affectionate personality. His foster carer described him as a very loving cat who would jump at every opportunity for another cuddle (just like a true Koala). Koala’s nature was clear to see - he was full of happy purrs, gentle head bumps and enjoyed following his foster carer from room to room, chirping softly behind them. Koala was ready to find a home of his own.

After four months in our care, with the expert help our supporters make possible, Koala finally found a loving new home.

Koala’s new family say he has settled in brilliantly and is “such a funny cat.” They describe him as very talkative, happily chirping as he follows them around the house. Like his namesake, Koala loves curling up and can often be found looking cosy in the bath, the sink and his new bed (his favourite place of all). Koala’s new owner shared that every morning, Koala will run to his bed with his toy mouse to proudly “announce his latest catch”.

Thanks to our amazing supporters, Koala has a home and someone to love him again – he is back to being his happiest, cuddliest self.
