Lemont Story

16 Dec 2025

Friendly yet nervous five-year-old Lemont was brought to Battersea after a change in his previous owner’s circumstances.

Battersea’s vets discovered he sadly had gastrointestinal and vomiting issues in his original home when he had become stressed, which soon improved after our team put him on a special diet.

After spending some time in a loving foster home, it wasn’t long before a wonderful new home was found for him. Lemont seemed to be settling in brilliantly, yet a month or so into living in his new home, he began to soil without using his litter tray. His new family sought help from Battersea’s feline behaviour team, who knew Lemont well.

After several phone calls with his new family, our team began piecing together what might be behind Lemont’s change in behaviour. It turned out the type of cat litter in his tray had been switched from what Lemont was used to, making him reluctant to use it. Our feline welfare team explained that this change, combined with strong cleaning products, had created an environment he wasn’t comfortable with. Once his family switched back to his preferred litter, Lemont quickly regained his good habits and the soiling stopped.

It’s only through your kind support that new owners can receive the expert advice they need from our dedicated teams, helping cats like Lemont not be given up and instead settle into their new homes.
