Purr Minister 2026

06 Aug 2026

Who do you think is the Purrfect cat? Purr Minister 2026

Battersea is preparing for a fur-midable feline face-off, as MPs and Peers have put their cats to a public vote to be elected Purr Minister 2026.

Each candidate has submitted a Manifursto explaining why they've got what it takes to rule the House. Whether it’s regulating cat breeding, tackling demand for harmful extreme features, or ensuring enough pet friendly properties for cats, which animal welfare policy will be your favourite?

Vote for your top cat

Voting is meow open! Get behind your favourite moggy and help us elect Purr Minister 2026. Voting will close at 9:00am on 31st August.

The winner will be announced on 8th September. May the best cat win!

Your Candidates

Bella

Bella: Black cat licking it's mouth

Owner: Adrian Ramsey
Manifursto:
I have a Dreamie: a Dreamie of true Feline Sovereign Dignity. Citizens, feline compatriots and human servants, the status quo has failed us. For too long we have suffered closed doors, visible bowl bottoms and unacceptable delays in tuna delivery. The Current Human Regime is not fit for purr-pose.

Under my leadership, the following national policies will take effect immediately:

Domestic Affairs and Infrastructure
• Open-Door Mandate: all interior doors must remain open. Leave does not mean leave. Cats reserve the right to enter, leave, re-enter and reconsider without explanation.
• 3:00 AM Readiness: nightly zoomies and yowling are essential to national security.
• Property Rights: if it exists, it is ours; if it is on a table edge, it belongs on the floor.
• Stop the Dogs: cats retain supreme authority over dogs, dog beds and all disputed soft furnishings.

Economy and Labour
• Labour Reform: keyboard work is a joint human-feline task. Laptops must remain warm.
• Currency Overhaul: paper money will be replaced by tuna, Dreamies and premium catnip.
• Working Time: purring on distressed humans is labour and must be rewarded. Cats are entitled to 18 hours’ sleep daily and do not work weekends.

Health and Public Safety
• Dietary Standards: the bottom of the bowl must never be visible. Visibility is a national emergency.
• Anti-Wetness Law: baths, sprays and suspicious splashes are banned.
• The Lap Act: all human laps are cat property, and moving a settled cat is an offence.
• Carpet Puking Rights: every cat deserves soft, light-coloured carpet for emergencies. No cat will be expected to vomit on a hard, wipe-clean floor.

I offer not empty promises, but a future of sunlight, full bowls, warm keyboards, obedient humans and tuna for all cats.

Vote Bella Ramsay for Purr Minister. Because democracy is important, but you have no choice anyway.

Clem and Mo

Owner: Johanna Baxter
Manifursto:
The Clement Catt-lee Health Charter: We’ll reform the vet market to reflect the NHS spirit, ensuring care is based on need, not bank accounts. No more cat-astrophic bills.
MEOW Law: We will replace the outdated Veterinary Surgeons Act with a Modernising Enforcement and Overhauling Welfare (MEOW) Law.
Build It Right, Build It Meow: A national infrastructure project for premium, high-traction carpeting and sun-drenched ledges.
Public Standards Watch-Cat: A new watch-cat will scoop out misconduct. Banned: 4 AM midnight zoomies and sitting on laptops during Zoom calls.
Purr-gmatic Foreign Pawlicy: Appointing Mo Meowlam as the new Special Envoy for Cat-and-Mouse Diplomacy.

Ebba

Ebba: Cat laying down on a bed

Owner: Helen-Ann Hartley (Lord Bishop of Newcastle/Mewcastle!)
Manifursto:
Furriends, I’m standing to be your next Purr Minister because it’s time to stop cat-napping through life and start living it paws-first!
If elected, I promise:

  • Daily zoomies for every household.
  • Mandatory climbing, stretching, and dignified fence patrols.
  • More chasing, less loafing (except after lunch—we’re cats, not miracles).
  • Equal access to cardboard boxes, sunny windowsills, and feather toys for all.

Remember: a fit cat catches more fun! Whether you’re pouncing on a toy mouse, sprinting up the stairs at 3 a.m., or perfecting your purr-kour across the furniture, every leap counts. Let’s claw our way to a healthier future—one paw-step at a time.

Vote for me, and together we’ll make the nation purr-fectly active!

Stay pawsitive. Keep moving. Never skip zoomie day!

Millie

Millie: Cat stretching on a scratching post

Owner: Scott Arthur MP
Manifursto:
We, the Cats, declare our inalienable rights: unlimited naps, prime sunbeam access, and immediate snack distribution upon request. We reject closed doors, empty bowls, and personal space. All cardboard boxes are sovereign cat territory. Humans shall provide chin scratches, admiration, and warm laps on demand. At 3 a.m., we reserve the right to sprint wildly for no reason. In return, we offer occasional purrs, hair on clothes just before you head out, mysterious companionship, and the honour of our presence. Remember: you do not own the cat. The cat generously permits you to live in its kingdom.

Campaigning for dogs and cats

We want to improve the welfare of every dog and cat – not just the ones at our centres. That’s why we speak up on animal welfare issues and make sure MPs and Peers hear about the changes that are needed.

But we can’t do it alone. With the help of animal lovers like you, our voice is so much louder. Together we can reach decision makers and keep dogs and cats high on the agenda.

Find out more about what we’re campaigning on, and how you can get involved.
