A brave feline is searching for a family to finally call his own after spending a year in Battersea’s care and undergoing series of dental surgeries.
Seven-year-old Merlin arrived at Battersea’s Old Windsor centre after a member of the public who had been caring for him sadly passed away. In his early days at Battersea, Merlin found cattery life overwhelming and was nervous around staff. To help him feel more comfortable, he was placed with a foster carer where he could settle and explore at his own pace.
However, Merlin’s journey was far from over. Ongoing dental problems meant that he needed two initial surgeries in his first few months, followed by a third procedure to remove his remaining teeth. But Merlin proved to be a fighter, and after weeks of dedicated care from Battersea staff and volunteers, he was finally given a clean bill of health.
Now fully recovered, Merlin has blossomed into a sweet, chatty and affectionate companion. He is on a wet-food-only diet due to his lack of teeth, but it hasn’t stopped him from enjoying his meals, treats, or plenty of attention.
Gen Gossage, Feline Behaviour and Training Advisor at Battersea, said: “Merlin has captured all our hearts during his year with us. Although he can be a bit shy at first, once he trusts you, he’ll happily follow you around and curl up on your lap for fuss. Anyone who takes the time to get to know Merlin will be rewarded with a loving, loyal, albeit sometimes dribbly, companion.”
After a year-long wait, Merlin is ready to find a calm, patient home where he can continue to build his confidence. He has overcome a lot in his seven years and deserves a family who will love him - gummy smile and all.
