More about Atreyu

Meet the uniquely named Atreyu! This lad is a stunning Labrador with a big personality. He loves his tennis balls and being on the go, so he is looking for an active, switched on family who can ensure he is mentally satiated each day. He is a dog trainer's dream dog!

He is still young at heart and can show some juvenile behaviours from time to time, being quite excitable and bouncy or softly mouthing when he is excited. His previous family brought him to Battersea due to his boundless energy and he does require a new home where his owners understand he is a ball of energy and will need to be kept mentally and physically satiated every day. He will need his own garden for his recall training and to burn off some of that energy, and would benefit from an all adult household where each member of the family can contribute to his care an exercise. He will need to be the only pet in his new home. He can at times be unsure of some men and will use his voice if he is unsure, so new owners will need to be willing to follow our advice with regards to this and continue the training we have started here, as he has made great progress.

Atreyu is a very clever boy and has the potential to learn lots of obedience, but his energy needs to be harnessed in a constructive way! During his time with us, he has turned his paw at scent work with tennis balls and due to his talents and drive, we even arranged for him to go for a working dog trial, but ultimately due to his confidence around unknown men sometimes lacking, this sadly did not work out for him. He would likely be a great candidate for extra curricular enriching activities such scent work, but his new owners may also want to consider working alongside a trainer to support them and Atreyu, and help them guide Atreyu to reach his full potential. We'd only recommend looking for positive reward based trainers who are accredited through a reputable organisation. Atreyu is much more than a 'walk around the block twice a day' kind of guy, and will need physically active new owners who enjoy the great outdoors and are looking for a companion to join them.
