More about Barney

Barney is a small one-year-old Shih Tzu with a big personality and plenty of charm. He loves being around people and enjoys lots of fuss and attention. Barney is looking for patient owners who can help him continue to build his confidence as he settles into home life.

Barney has been incredibly friendly with people during his time with us and is always eager to say hello. He enjoys spending time with his favourite people and is quick to seek out affection. When he's not soaking up attention, Barney loves entertaining himself with his toys, happily throwing them around or settling into his bed for a play session.

He can find the outside world a little overwhelming. When he is feeling stressed, he may pull on the lead or bark, but he is usually able to settle with reassurance and time. He would benefit from having a consistent, familiar walking route while he adjusts to his new home, allowing him to build confidence before exploring new places. Due to his worry of the outside world, Barney will need a secure private garden where he can safely explore, play, and burn off some energy in a calm environment.

Barney has shown some frustration around other dogs and can bark when he sees them, particularly if there are lots of dogs nearby. Despite this, he has successfully met other dogs before enjoying calm walks alongside them. He particularly enjoys playing with smaller dogs that match his play style. Barney has been making good progress with his training while in our care, and his new owners will need to continue this positive work to help him feel more comfortable around other dogs. Barney would prefer to be the only dog in his new home.

For owners who are looking for a fun, affectionate companion and are keen to continue building his confidence, Barney will make a wonderful addition.
