More about Barry
Barry is one big bundle of bouncy, lovable Barry-ness! This sensitive young boy may be a big boy, but he’s still finding his paws in the world and can be easily overwhelmed by new experiences. With the right person by his side, Barry has the potential to grow into a wonderful companion.
Barry is a friendly, playful and food-motivated boy who loves sniffing, exploring and spending time with people once he has built a bond. He can be unsure when meeting new people and dogs, and may show this by moving away, lowering his body or tucking his tail, but with patience he becomes wonderfully wiggly and affectionate. Barry enjoys gentle fuss, enrichment, chews and enrichment games, which can really help him feel settled. He is still learning about home life and hasn’t been housetrained, so his new family will need plenty of patience and regular opportunities for him to toilet outside. He can also be sensitive to noise, handling and doorways, so a calm, gentle approach and plenty of positive reinforcement will be important!
Barry is looking for an experienced, patient home where he can be the only dog, with opportunities to socialise regularly with suitable, steady canine role models. Due to his size and bouncy nature, he is best without cats or small furries, and without children. Barry will need a private, secure garden and access to safe spaces for off-lead exercise, ideally in a quieter, lower-dog-population area. His new family should be prepared for a gradual settling-in period, with someone around most of the time initially and alone time introduced very slowly through short absences. He’ll also need help learning to cope with everyday sounds, handling, walks and new people, while being given space when he feels worried. His family should be confident reading his body language and managing some of his stressy behaviours, using calm redirection. A predictable routine, enrichment, positive training and a quiet retreat of his own will help Barry feel safe and the chance to blossom!
If you have already completed our online rehoming form and would like to know more about Barry, you can e-mail our rehoming team on bbh.rehomers@battersea.org.uk to register your interest.
We ask every customer to first complete our online form before we discuss an individual animal, so if you have not filled in our form yet you can find the details on how to do so here (https://www.battersea.org.uk/rehoming).
Please be aware that we have a large amount of interest in rehoming our animals, so we are only able to contact those that are a match for the dog you have contacted us about.
Rehoming FAQs
Here at Battersea, we assess all of our dogs individually and create a rehoming profile for them. To ensure successful matches between people and pets, we use a combination of extensive rehoming experience, our staff expertise and the information you provided in your rehoming form. Once you complete your online registration, you’ll receive a confirmation email to let you know that we have everything we need to begin our matchmaking process, as well as the next steps of the process.
This may not always be the dog you thought it would be, which is why we ask that you see the registration form as a way of registering your interest in rehoming, not an application for a specific animal. We’re experts in making sure we find the right home for our dogs and the right dog for your home.

Once you’ve completed our online registration form, we’ll handle the rest. Your rehoming registration will be open for up to three months, and in that time, we’ll do our very best to try and match you with a pet that best suits you and your lifestyle. It can take a bit of time for us to try and match you with a pet – but we promise it’s time well spent. We’re committed to getting to know every animal at our centres before finding a match that works for our dogs and for you wherever possible.
If we are not able to match you with a dog within three months, we’ll let you know and offer guidance to help you continue your search, either at Battersea or beyond.

Our rehoming fee is £230 for dogs (over six months), £350 for a pair of dogs, or £275 for puppies (under six months). We accept cash or debit/credit card as payment (we are unable to accept cheques). Included in this cost are the following:
- Microchipping
- Initial vaccinations, flea and worming treatment
- Neutering
- A collar, identification tag and lead
- Starter pack of food, advice and special offers
- Four weeks’ free Petplan insurance as your dog settles into their new surroundings
Something to bear in mind is that our rehoming fee is just the beginning of the costs involved with owning a dog. We would recommend that before making the decision to rehome, you investigate the costs of pet food, pet insurance, grooming and fees at your local veterinary centre so that you are fully prepared for the financial implications of bringing a dog into your home.
