Kenji is a characterful Akita looking for a new home with owners who have knowledge of owning or caring for the breed and have an understanding of their strong, independent nature.
Once he knows you Kenji loves spending time with people, often bouncing around with his ears tucked when he sees his friends. He particularly likes a bum scratch from those he knows well. Although he has a generally aloof nature as he gets to know people, he enjoys affection and fuss. Even with a selection of comfortable beds Kenji likes to lay on the floor close to people.
Kenji enjoys a balance of sniffy walks and opportunities to stretch his legs in secure enclosed areas where he can explore freely. He has generally been happy to pass other dogs without much interest but can become focused if they are a particularly busy dog. For this reason, he is looking to be the only dog in his new home. He does enjoy going on walks with more independent dog friends that are happy to give him some space.
He can be wary of unfamiliar people but communicates clearly through his body language, using behaviours such as barking or becoming tense when he is unsure. He has been working on training involving strangers and made great progress since being with us. New owners will need to be confident continuing this training and reading his body language.
A home with a secure private garden will be essential for Kenji, giving him a safe outdoor space where he can relax without seeing unfamiliar dogs or people. He would also benefit from plenty of mental enrichment alongside his walks. Kenji is incredibly food motivated and knows a series of tricks including a sit, paw, down and middle. He has a great playful side once he feels settled and loves chasing soft squeaky toys, nibbling them before throwing them around for himself.
Kenji is looking for a home with older teenagers or adults only who understand his need for space and quiet. A calmer household with limited visitors would suit him best.
Kenji is a loyal and fun companion looking for owners who will appreciate his independent but loving nature.

Rehoming FAQs
Here at Battersea, we assess all of our dogs individually and create a rehoming profile for them. To ensure successful matches between people and pets, we use a combination of extensive rehoming experience, our staff expertise and the information you provided in your rehoming form. Once you complete your online registration, you’ll receive a confirmation email to let you know that we have everything we need to begin our matchmaking process, as well as the next steps of the process.
This may not always be the dog you thought it would be, which is why we ask that you see the registration form as a way of registering your interest in rehoming, not an application for a specific animal. We’re experts in making sure we find the right home for our dogs and the right dog for your home.

Once you’ve completed our online registration form, we’ll handle the rest. Your rehoming registration will be open for up to three months, and in that time, we’ll do our very best to try and match you with a pet that best suits you and your lifestyle. It can take a bit of time for us to try and match you with a pet – but we promise it’s time well spent. We’re committed to getting to know every animal at our centres before finding a match that works for our dogs and for you wherever possible.
If we are not able to match you with a dog within three months, we’ll let you know and offer guidance to help you continue your search, either at Battersea or beyond.

Our rehoming fee is £230 for dogs (over six months), £350 for a pair of dogs, or £275 for puppies (under six months). We accept cash or debit/credit card as payment (we are unable to accept cheques). Included in this cost are the following:
- Microchipping
- Initial vaccinations, flea and worming treatment
- Neutering
- A collar, identification tag and lead
- Starter pack of food, advice and special offers
- Four weeks’ free Petplan insurance as your dog settles into their new surroundings
Something to bear in mind is that our rehoming fee is just the beginning of the costs involved with owning a dog. We would recommend that before making the decision to rehome, you investigate the costs of pet food, pet insurance, grooming and fees at your local veterinary centre so that you are fully prepared for the financial implications of bringing a dog into your home.
