Meet Peter, a gentle and sensitive ex-racing Greyhound looking for a calm and understanding home where he can take life at his own pace.
Peter has shown lovely, appropriate manners around other dogs and could potentially live with a suitably matched canine companion following successful introductions.
Peter has found the transition into our care quite worrying and can be nervous around new people and unfamiliar environments. When given time and space, he is beginning to show more curiosity and enjoys quietly sniffing and exploring his surroundings.
His new owners will need to be patient while he learns about life in a home and allow his confidence to develop gradually without putting pressure on him. A calm environment and predictable routine will help him feel more comfortable as he settles in. He would be best suited to a home with teenagers or adults who can give him the space and time he needs.
As a retired racer, Peter will need to be kept on lead and muzzled when outside the home, as part of his chase management. This means his new family will need to follow specific management around wildlife, cats and other potential chase triggers. He will therefore need his own private garden where he can enjoy some off-lead time safely. Although Peter has behaved appropriately around the dogs he has met whilst with us, his owners should remain mindful that his chase instincts may become more apparent as he grows in confidence.
Peter will need owners who are happy to give him the time, reassurance and consistency he needs. With the right support, he has the potential to become a lovely and gentle companion.

Rehoming FAQs
Here at Battersea, we assess all of our dogs individually and create a rehoming profile for them. To ensure successful matches between people and pets, we use a combination of extensive rehoming experience, our staff expertise and the information you provided in your rehoming form. Once you complete your online registration, you’ll receive a confirmation email to let you know that we have everything we need to begin our matchmaking process, as well as the next steps of the process.
This may not always be the dog you thought it would be, which is why we ask that you see the registration form as a way of registering your interest in rehoming, not an application for a specific animal. We’re experts in making sure we find the right home for our dogs and the right dog for your home.

Once you’ve completed our online registration form, we’ll handle the rest. Your rehoming registration will be open for up to three months, and in that time, we’ll do our very best to try and match you with a pet that best suits you and your lifestyle. It can take a bit of time for us to try and match you with a pet – but we promise it’s time well spent. We’re committed to getting to know every animal at our centres before finding a match that works for our dogs and for you wherever possible.
If we are not able to match you with a dog within three months, we’ll let you know and offer guidance to help you continue your search, either at Battersea or beyond.

Our rehoming fee is £230 for dogs (over six months), £350 for a pair of dogs, or £275 for puppies (under six months). We accept cash or debit/credit card as payment (we are unable to accept cheques). Included in this cost are the following:
- Microchipping
- Initial vaccinations, flea and worming treatment
- Neutering
- A collar, identification tag and lead
- Starter pack of food, advice and special offers
- Four weeks’ free Petplan insurance as your dog settles into their new surroundings
Something to bear in mind is that our rehoming fee is just the beginning of the costs involved with owning a dog. We would recommend that before making the decision to rehome, you investigate the costs of pet food, pet insurance, grooming and fees at your local veterinary centre so that you are fully prepared for the financial implications of bringing a dog into your home.
