More about Toast

Toast is a gentle Dachshund with a laid-back nature. He is currently based at Battersea Old Windsor.

Toast has shown to have a sensitive demeanour when meeting new people and prefers to take a moment to figure them out before going over to say hello, but will then happily make friends and enjoy some fuss. He has shown some reactions to some people when he feels uncomfortable and needs an adult only home without too many people coming and going, as Toast will find this difficult.

Toast can show a mix of behaviours when he sees other dogs, he often gets excited and whines because he’d like to say hello, but at other times he can be really worried and chooses to keep to himself. Due to this, Toast would feel most comfortable as the only dog in the home at this point in his life.

He has a great appetite and really enjoys his meals. He’s having fun using simple slow feeders and food-based toys. Toast loves winding down with a long-lasting chew, which helps him relax.

We have a limited history from Toast’s time in his previous home and how he coped with being left alone. In kennels, he can struggle with being left and may bark for attention when he can hear people nearby. Toast really enjoys human company and finds comfort in having people around, so he may need some time, patience, and gentle guidance to settle into a home and learn the routine and boundaries. With consistency and reassurance, he’ll gain confidence as he adjusts to his new surroundings. He needs to live with more than one person at home as we have seen that he forms very strong bonds with people and can get stressed if someone leaves the room. Owners will need to dedicate some time to helping him develop some confidence and independence at home.

We are sure Toast will make an endearing companion and will bring plenty of happiness to his new home.
