Say hello to our handsome boy, Zeus!
Zeus is an Akita who was found as a stray, so we have no known history. During his time with the wardens he was described as a friendly, well behaved boy with people!
Since arriving on-site, he has displayed similar behaviour alongside typical kennel stress. Zeus is a smart cookie and is responding well to ongoing stop-start and recall training.
Zeus was under the care of the London Battersea team, and is currently residing in a foster home. Zeus's fantastic personality of 'couch potato' has really shone on foster. His foster carer describes him as the 'calmest foster dog' he's ever had and reports he will happily sleep anywhere and everywhere in the home. Zeus will seek him out for fuss, get what he wants and then take himself back to snoozing. He's a dream of a foster dog so you can only imagine how perfect he will be as a forever dog!
Mr. Zeus should be the only dog in the home, as both his limited history and current behaviour indicate he may not be comfortable living with other dogs, although he may be able to live with a dog savvy, independent cat as he has shown no chase behaviours in care. We would only recommend this for extremely confident and dog savvy cats, and with owners who have previously owned this breed and successfully introduced them to cats.
Zeus has shown himself to be a typical mature male Akita around other dogs, often keen to greet and displaying some social behaviours, however he can be quick to reprimand and has become stressed around them. Due to his breed type and behaviours around other dogs, new owners should be fully prepared to keep him on lead during walks.
Zeus will also require access to his own private garden to support training away from busy inner city environments. As an Akita, he will need plenty of both mental and physical stimulation to prevent boredom and support his overall wellbeing.
As is common with his breed, he can be sensitive around handling, sometimes becoming restless and bouncing around his kennel and panting, but he is making steady progress with training. Zeus would be best suited to a home with some previous Akita experience and to owners who are confident in physically handling him and committed to continuing his training.

Rehoming FAQs
Here at Battersea, we assess all of our dogs individually and create a rehoming profile for them. To ensure successful matches between people and pets, we use a combination of extensive rehoming experience, our staff expertise and the information you provided in your rehoming form. Once you complete your online registration, you’ll receive a confirmation email to let you know that we have everything we need to begin our matchmaking process, as well as the next steps of the process.
This may not always be the dog you thought it would be, which is why we ask that you see the registration form as a way of registering your interest in rehoming, not an application for a specific animal. We’re experts in making sure we find the right home for our dogs and the right dog for your home.

Once you’ve completed our online registration form, we’ll handle the rest. Your rehoming registration will be open for up to three months, and in that time, we’ll do our very best to try and match you with a pet that best suits you and your lifestyle. It can take a bit of time for us to try and match you with a pet – but we promise it’s time well spent. We’re committed to getting to know every animal at our centres before finding a match that works for our dogs and for you wherever possible.
If we are not able to match you with a dog within three months, we’ll let you know and offer guidance to help you continue your search, either at Battersea or beyond.

Our rehoming fee is £230 for dogs (over six months), £350 for a pair of dogs, or £275 for puppies (under six months). We accept cash or debit/credit card as payment (we are unable to accept cheques). Included in this cost are the following:
- Microchipping
- Initial vaccinations, flea and worming treatment
- Neutering
- A collar, identification tag and lead
- Starter pack of food, advice and special offers
- Four weeks’ free Petplan insurance as your dog settles into their new surroundings
Something to bear in mind is that our rehoming fee is just the beginning of the costs involved with owning a dog. We would recommend that before making the decision to rehome, you investigate the costs of pet food, pet insurance, grooming and fees at your local veterinary centre so that you are fully prepared for the financial implications of bringing a dog into your home.
