More about Zeus

Say hello to our handsome boy, Zeus!

Zeus is an Akita who was found as a stray with no known history, but during his time with wardens he was described as a friendly, well behaved boy with people!

Since arriving on-site, he has displayed similar behaviour alongside typical kennel stress,. Zeus is a smart cookie and is responding well to ongoing stop-start and recall training.

Mr. Zeus should be the only dog in the home, as both his limited history and current behaviour indicate he may not be comfortable living with other dogs, although he may be able to live with a dog savvy, independent cat as he has shown no chase behaviours in care, however we would only recommend this for extremely confident and dog savvy cats, and with owners who have owned this breed and successfully introduced them to cats.

Zeus has shown himself to be a typical mature male Akita around other dogs, often keen to greet and displaying some social behaviours, however he can be quick to reprimand and has become stressed around them. Due to his breed type and behaviours around other dogs, new owners should be fully prepared to keep him on lead during walks.

Zeus will also require access to his own private garden to support training away from busy inner city environments. As an Akita, he will need plenty of both mental and physical stimulation to prevent boredom and support his overall wellbeing.

As is common with his breed, he can be sensitive to handling, sometimes becoming restless, bouncing around his kennel and panting, but he is making steady progress with training. Zeus would be best suited to an experienced home, ideally with knowledge of Akita's, where owners are confident in physically handling him and committed to continuing his training.
