The residents of Battersea's London Cattery embraced the Halloween spirit this week with a 'spooky' pet-friendly photoshoot.
Rescue cats and kittens posed for the camera ahead of Saturday's (31 October) festivities in their very own pumpkin patch: complete with cuddly spiders, ghoulish knitted mice and plenty of pet-friendly treats (not tricks).
The shoot gave one tiny resident the opportunity to meet her namesake. Despite only being one-pumpkin-tall, Munchkin Pumpkin was far from a scaredy-cat, bravely scoping out the unusual additions to her pen. Luna and Toffee were equally taken with the novel decorations, whilst kittens Bat and George preferred playtime over pumpkins.
Halloween can be fun for the whole family, but it's important that owners take precautions to ensure their cats stay safe and calm during the 'spookiest' night of the year.
While it can be tempting to dress pets up in costumes, Battersea urges owners resist as many cats find it both stressful and uncomfortable.
The charity also recommends pet-proofing any Halloween decorations around the house to help prevent curious cats trying to climb up hanging decorations or attempting to eat novelty props. String, or similar materials, can be especially harmful if ingested, so it's important to keep a watchful eye on your pet if you do choose to decorate, and keep them out of mischief.
If you are interested in opening your home to one of Battersea's rescues, please visit the charity's website to complete an online rehoming form and meet some of the 'frightfully' sweet felines hoping to cast a spell on you this Halloween.
