Since 1860, Battersea has championed dogs of all ages, sizes, and breeds. While the charity itself has changed a great deal over the past 165 years, its commitment to canines has not. This National Dog Day (26 August), Battersea is spotlighting some of the wonderful and unique characters currently in its care.
Laura Alwen, Rehoming and Welfare Manager at Battersea, said: “There's no such thing as a typical Battersea dog. Every rescue who comes into our care has their own personality, preferences and quirks. Our expert teams take the time to get to know each individual dog, so we can give them the best possible care while they're with us and build a picture of the type of home and family where they'd thrive.
“National Dog Day is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate just how different each of our canine residents can be, and to introduce some of the brilliant characters currently looking for homes. Whether they're big or small, young or old, playful or a couch potato, every dog has something special to offer. If you're considering welcoming a dog into your life, your perfect match could be waiting at a rescue like Battersea.”
Lula
Meet Lula, a gorgeous seven-month-old Husky cross who embraces each day with enthusiasm. Lula is full of energy, in true Husky fashion, and loves everyone she meets, whether they have two legs or four. She’s looking for a home where she’ll get plenty of attention, exercise, and with owners who are willing to continue her training.
Buster
Next is the lovely Buster, a sweet senior Staffy cross looking for a quieter pace of life. This friendly boy loves a fuss from his favourite people and will happily soak up all the attention he can get. As an older gentleman, Buster prefers gentle walks over long hikes, with plenty of time to sniff and explore at his own pace. Ultimately, he’s seeking a peaceful home where he can enjoy a comfy bed with a caring companion by his side.
Peggy & Pat
Peggy and Pat are delightful, bonded pair of young Chihuahua crosses. The one-year-old sisters are never far from each other and often look to one another for comfort and reassurance as they explore the world around them. Peggy is the more confident of the pair and loves attention from her favourite Battersea staff members and volunteers. Pat is a little more reserved and takes her time getting to know new people. With understanding owners, there is no doubt the pair will blossom into wonderful companions – they just need a little time, patience and love.
Georgie Best
Meet your future star player and pet: five-year-old Greyhound Georgie Best. Georgie is a fun-loving and affectionate ex-racing Greyhound who enjoys kicking a football around, receiving lots of fuss, and spending time with his favourite humans. He loves pottering around and showing off his fancy footwork, so a home with a secure private garden would be ideal, while quieter walking routes will give him the chance to build his confidence. Georgie is looking for an owner who can help him gently settle into home life, practice his trick shots, and, of course, provide plenty of belly rubs!
Willow
Last but not least is Willow, a larger-than-life character looking for owners to match her boundless enthusiasm. This energetic three-year-old loves saying hello to people and will happily bounce up for a face-to-face greeting! As a Portuguese Podengo cross, a breed known for being lively, intelligent and agile, she’s looking for experienced owners who can keep her active and provide plenty of opportunities for exercise, enrichment and exploration.
