More about Andy

Fancy a cuppa with a new best friend? Meet Andy, our handsome ex-racing Greyhound who has developed quite the taste for office life, even attempting to help himself to a cup of tea! This gentle giant weighs in at an impressive 38kg and has a big heart to match. With his friendly personality and love of making new friends, Andy is sure to bring plenty of smiles to his new home!

Since arriving at the centre, Andy has shown himself to be a friendly and sociable boy who enjoys meeting new people, having a fuss and, of course, receiving some tasty treats! Although toys haven’t particularly caught his interest, he absolutely loves stretching his legs in our secure paddocks and showing off his impressive zoomies. Andy has been friendly towards the dogs he’s met on site, although his racing instincts can sometimes take over around smaller dogs, which he may be inclined to chase.

Andy has generally been relaxed in his kennel and has also spent time in our offices, where he has managed short periods alone. Occasionally, he can find it difficult to settle and may pace around, so he’ll appreciate some gentle guidance as he adjusts to home life. His future family will also need to keep an eye on their counters, as this cheeky chap isn’t afraid to investigate what’s on offer!

As Andy has spent his life in a racing environment, living in a home will be a brand new adventure for him! He’s looking for patient and understanding owners who can help him discover all the comforts of home life, including learning his housetraining skills. A secure, private garden will be essential, giving Andy somewhere to enjoy his beloved zoomies, explore at his own pace and practise his housetraining. He would also appreciate access to lovely green walking spaces, as he’s shown that harder surfaces such as concrete and bark chip can be a little uncomfortable on his paws. Although we don’t know whether Andy has previously spent time around children, his gentle nature means we feel he could live with children who are comfortable around larger dogs.

Andy is a truly lovely boy who can’t wait to swap his racing days for a cosy home, plenty of affection and perhaps the occasional tea break with his favourite people!

We ask every customer to first complete our online form before we discuss an individual animal, so if you have not filled in our form yet you can find the details on how to do so here https://www.battersea.org.uk/rehoming

If you have already completed our online rehoming form and would like to know more about our wiggly girl, you can e-mail our rehoming team on bbh.rehomers@battersea.org.uk to register your interest.

Please be aware that we have a large amount of interest in rehoming our animals, so we are only able to contact those that are a match for the dog you have contacted us about.

Rehoming FAQs

Here at Battersea, we assess all of our dogs individually and create a rehoming profile for them. To ensure successful matches between people and pets, we use a combination of extensive rehoming experience, our staff expertise and the information you provided in your rehoming form. Once you complete your online registration, you’ll receive a confirmation email to let you know that we have everything we need to begin our matchmaking process, as well as the next steps of the process.

This may not always be the dog you thought it would be, which is why we ask that you see the registration form as a way of registering your interest in rehoming, not an application for a specific animal. We’re experts in making sure we find the right home for our dogs and the right dog for your home.

Once you’ve completed our online registration form, we’ll handle the rest.  Your rehoming registration will be open for up to three months, and in that time, we’ll do our very best to try and match you with a pet that best suits you and your lifestyle. It can take a bit of time for us to try and match you with a pet – but we promise it’s time well spent. We’re committed to getting to know every animal at our centres before finding a match that works for our dogs and for you wherever possible.

If we are not able to match you with a dog within three months, we’ll let you know and offer guidance to help you continue your search, either at Battersea or beyond.

Our rehoming fee is £230 for dogs (over six months), £350 for a pair of dogs, or £275 for puppies (under six months). We accept cash or debit/credit card as payment (we are unable to accept cheques). Included in this cost are the following:

  • Microchipping
  • Initial vaccinations, flea and worming treatment
  • Neutering
  • A collar, identification tag and lead
  • Starter pack of food, advice and special offers
  • Four weeks’ free Petplan insurance as your dog settles into their new surroundings

Something to bear in mind is that our rehoming fee is just the beginning of the costs involved with owning a dog. We would recommend that before making the decision to rehome, you investigate the costs of pet food, pet insurance, grooming and fees at your local veterinary centre so that you are fully prepared for the financial implications of bringing a dog into your home.
