More about Dallas
Dallas is a gentle, sensitive Lurcher who can find the world a rather worrying place. He is still learning to navigate new situations and will need patient, understanding owners who are happy to let him take life at his own pace. Dallas can be easily overwhelmed by noise, busy environments and unfamiliar people, so finding a calm and peaceful home where he can feel safe will be important for him.
He will need to live in a quiet household with owners who understand that building trust takes time. He isn't a dog that will enjoy lots of hands-on attention from people, and he may initially prefer to keep his distance while he gets used to his new surroundings. When unfamiliar people come to see him, he can often avoid interaction altogether. He can also find groups of people overwhelming when out and about, keeping as much distance as possible. His new owners will need to respect his boundaries, allow him to approach people in his own time and ensure he always has somewhere quiet to retreat to when he needs a break.
Dallas can find meeting new people daunting and often finds introductions easier when another dog is present, allowing him to observe from a distance and choose whether he wants to approach will help him build positive associations at his own pace. Although Dallas can be a very worried boy, once he has built a bond with someone, his affectionate side really begins to shine. With his trusted people, he enjoys leaning against them, resting his head on their lap and asking for more fuss.
He can initially be worried when meeting other dogs but warms up quite quickly. Dallas has shown that the company of another dog can make a real difference to his confidence. He could potentially live with a calm canine companion who could act as a reassuring role model. He particularly enjoys having a walking buddy, and when he feels worried, he will often position himself between his dog friend and a trusted person, leaning against them both for comfort.
Dallas will need a private, secure garden where he can potter about and gradually grow in confidence in familiar surroundings. Walks will need to be introduced slowly, starting with simple outings in quiet areas where he can take in the world without feeling overwhelmed. Passing traffic is particularly worrying for him, so he will need to be walked away from busy roads where cars are passing close by.
Dallas is a unique boy who simply needs a little extra help to feel safe in the world. Beneath his worries is an affectionate companion who, once he trusts you, enjoys leaning in for cuddles and being close to his favourite people. With a quiet home, a patient family and potentially a calm canine friend to show him the way, Dallas has every opportunity to continue growing in confidence and discovering the joys of home life.
Potential owners will need to speak with a Battersea vet prior to rehoming Dallas.
If you have already completed our online rehoming form and would like to know more about Dallas you can e-mail our rehoming team on bow.rehomers@battersea.org.uk to register your interest.
We ask every customer to first complete our online form before we discuss an individual animal, so if you have not filled in our form yet you can find the details on how to do so here https://www.battersea.org.uk/rehoming.
Please be aware that we have a large amount of interest in rehoming our animals, so we are only able to contact those that are a match for the dog you have contacted us about.
Rehoming FAQs
Here at Battersea, we assess all of our dogs individually and create a rehoming profile for them. To ensure successful matches between people and pets, we use a combination of extensive rehoming experience, our staff expertise and the information you provided in your rehoming form. Once you complete your online registration, you’ll receive a confirmation email to let you know that we have everything we need to begin our matchmaking process, as well as the next steps of the process.
This may not always be the dog you thought it would be, which is why we ask that you see the registration form as a way of registering your interest in rehoming, not an application for a specific animal. We’re experts in making sure we find the right home for our dogs and the right dog for your home.

Once you’ve completed our online registration form, we’ll handle the rest. Your rehoming registration will be open for up to three months, and in that time, we’ll do our very best to try and match you with a pet that best suits you and your lifestyle. It can take a bit of time for us to try and match you with a pet – but we promise it’s time well spent. We’re committed to getting to know every animal at our centres before finding a match that works for our dogs and for you wherever possible.
If we are not able to match you with a dog within three months, we’ll let you know and offer guidance to help you continue your search, either at Battersea or beyond.

Our rehoming fee is £230 for dogs (over six months), £350 for a pair of dogs, or £275 for puppies (under six months). We accept cash or debit/credit card as payment (we are unable to accept cheques). Included in this cost are the following:
- Microchipping
- Initial vaccinations, flea and worming treatment
- Neutering
- A collar, identification tag and lead
- Starter pack of food, advice and special offers
- Four weeks’ free Petplan insurance as your dog settles into their new surroundings
Something to bear in mind is that our rehoming fee is just the beginning of the costs involved with owning a dog. We would recommend that before making the decision to rehome, you investigate the costs of pet food, pet insurance, grooming and fees at your local veterinary centre so that you are fully prepared for the financial implications of bringing a dog into your home.
