More about Dorothy
Dorothy is a gentle greyhound with a heart as soft as her silky ears! This sensitive lady is still discovering the world beyond the racing kennels, and while she can be a little unsure of life’s bigger picture, she is slowly finding her confidence with patient, kind people by her side.
Dorothy is a sweet, independent girl who has grown in confidence since arriving with us. She enjoys the company of calm dogs and can benefit from walking alongside a steady canine friend, but her strong chase drive means she must always be kept on lead and muzzled when out in public. Fast-moving dogs can trigger her chase instinct, so she is looking for a home where she can be the only dog and where walks take place in areas with dogs kept on lead and under control. Dorothy can find handling, loud noises, passing traffic and open spaces worrying, sometimes putting the brakes on when she feels overwhelmed! She responds well to patience, gentle encouragement and tasty treats, and will need a lot of time to build trust with her new family. As a former racing greyhound, she has not experienced life in a home and will need to learn housetraining from scratch.
Dorothy is looking for a calm, understanding home with older teenagers who can read her body language and give her space when she needs it. She will need her own private, secure garden for toilet training, off-lead exercise and confidence building. Her new family should be around for most of the settling-in period and gradually introduce time alone, with a cosy safe space where she can retreat undisturbed! Quiet residential routes may suit her better than wide open spaces. Dear Dorothy has secured herself as an absolute dream to have in our office spaces, but would love a sofa to and family to call her own!
If you have already completed our online rehoming form and would like to know more about Dorothy, you can e-mail our rehoming team on bbh.rehomers@battersea.org.uk to register your interest.
We ask every customer to first complete our online form before we discuss an individual animal, so if you have not filled in our form yet you can find the details on how to do so here (https://www.battersea.org.uk/rehoming).
Please be aware that we have a large amount of interest in rehoming our animals, so we are only able to contact those that are a match for the dog you have contacted us about.
Rehoming FAQs
Here at Battersea, we assess all of our dogs individually and create a rehoming profile for them. To ensure successful matches between people and pets, we use a combination of extensive rehoming experience, our staff expertise and the information you provided in your rehoming form. Once you complete your online registration, you’ll receive a confirmation email to let you know that we have everything we need to begin our matchmaking process, as well as the next steps of the process.
This may not always be the dog you thought it would be, which is why we ask that you see the registration form as a way of registering your interest in rehoming, not an application for a specific animal. We’re experts in making sure we find the right home for our dogs and the right dog for your home.

Once you’ve completed our online registration form, we’ll handle the rest. Your rehoming registration will be open for up to three months, and in that time, we’ll do our very best to try and match you with a pet that best suits you and your lifestyle. It can take a bit of time for us to try and match you with a pet – but we promise it’s time well spent. We’re committed to getting to know every animal at our centres before finding a match that works for our dogs and for you wherever possible.
If we are not able to match you with a dog within three months, we’ll let you know and offer guidance to help you continue your search, either at Battersea or beyond.

Our rehoming fee is £230 for dogs (over six months), £350 for a pair of dogs, or £275 for puppies (under six months). We accept cash or debit/credit card as payment (we are unable to accept cheques). Included in this cost are the following:
- Microchipping
- Initial vaccinations, flea and worming treatment
- Neutering
- A collar, identification tag and lead
- Starter pack of food, advice and special offers
- Four weeks’ free Petplan insurance as your dog settles into their new surroundings
Something to bear in mind is that our rehoming fee is just the beginning of the costs involved with owning a dog. We would recommend that before making the decision to rehome, you investigate the costs of pet food, pet insurance, grooming and fees at your local veterinary centre so that you are fully prepared for the financial implications of bringing a dog into your home.
