More about Jesko
Jesko is a cheeky, exuberant and loveable dog based at our Old Windsor centre.
He has a heart of gold but can forget himself at times and when excited, bored or unsure of what to do he can jump up, sometimes very high, and use his mouth. He is incredibly intelligent and shows off his best behaviour when he is given a task or some training to do. He knows some great basic commands and knows sit, down, bed, wait, off already.
Jesko is spending some time in a foster home and has overall settled really well. He is almost fully housetrained, calmly travels in the car and happily jumps in, and loves laying with his foster carers on the sofa. One of Jesko’s main behaviours that will need monitoring closely at home is his habit of helping himself to, and often eating, things that he shouldn’t do. Whilst this is improving, he will still try this and it is important that his owners are committed to keeping a close eye on him at home. In his foster home he settles well at night in an area where there is nothing for him to get hold of, but he does still have a quick check just incase! Jesko has plenty of his own hard-wearing toys and chews that he will choose to play with so he always has access to these.
Despite his confident appearance, Jesko can be worried of some situations, noises and people and needs kind, calm training to help him build his confidence in these areas. Jesko is on a special diet due to some allergies, but his food is brilliant to use for his training. He can have treats of carrot and fruit and he really enjoys these, and carrots give him something tasty to chew on.
He may be able to live with an existing dog in his new home. He’ll benefit from living with a calm role model who can show him boundaries but who will also play and enjoy a juvenile dog at home. Jesko loves being with people and, given his love of finding his own amusement at home, will not be able to be left alone at first when he is settling in. He’ll need owners who can be around to keep him company but also help train him to be more independent at home with a view to spending short periods of time alone.
Jesko is a truly lovely dog who deserves to find his own forever home with owners willing to continue his training and help work on the foundations he has in place. In return, he’ll bring lots of laughter and affection.
