More about Leon

Leon is a timid and sensitive Greyhound who can feel unsure in new situations and is slowly learning to navigate the world at his own pace. He is currently based at Battersea Old Windsor

Leon will need to live in a home with another dog, ideally a Greyhound or a calm Lurcher. We have seen that Leon manages much better when he has a canine companion alongside him, particularly when out walking. This may not be possible for the first few weeks of getting him home but the presence of another dog helps him to feel more secure.

Leon is a very worried boy who becomes easily overwhelmed, he will need very calm, patient and understanding owners. He will need to be allowed to move forward entirely at his own pace, without any pressure. It is important for prospective new owners to understand that, initially, Leon may not show much engagement or affection, and this is completely normal for him. He will need time, consistency and quiet reassurance to begin feeling safe. Once Leon feels settled and builds a bond with you, his affectionate side begins to show, and he really enjoys a gentle scratch under the chin.

Leon has been eating well during his stay and enjoys using puzzle feeders for his meals, which he really enjoys working through. He’s happy to accept any treat offered, though he may be a little shy about taking them directly from your hand while he’s still getting to know you. A few tasty, high‑value treats are a lovely way to win him over.

Leon is very much a dog that is going to take time to adapt and settle into a home so new owners shouldn’t expect quick progress. Moving into a home will feel like entering a completely unfamiliar world for him, and he is likely to feel very unsure for some time. He will need patient guidance as he slowly learns what life in a home means and what is expected of him.

New owners will have the rewarding experience of watching Leon’s personality start to shine once he has found his confidence.
