Effal’s Road To Recovery

12 Aug 2025

From the moment sweet French Bulldog, Effal, was brought to Battersea, it was clear that she needed some extra care and attention. Following a thorough checkup by our skilled veterinary team, several common health issues in her breed were identified. Effal was found to have irritation within her skin folds, weepy eyes and ear infections, which needed regular, gentle cleaning to ease her discomfort. Our veterinary team also noticed an issue with Effal’s dew-claw (the toe on a dog’s 'wrist' area), which they then clipped and cleaned.

Battersea staff were also concerned about Effal’s heavy panting and her ability to breathe. She was diagnosed with Brachycephalic Obstructive Airway Syndrome (BOAS), a respiratory condition that affects many flat-faced breeds. Effal needed vital surgery to improve her breathing. Yet despite all these challenges, she responded marvellously to her treatments. After making a full recovery, she was ready to find her new home. And it wasn’t long before she found one! She now enjoys plenty of fuss and walks in the woods with her new owners. It’s all thanks to you that dogs like Effal can receive the lifechanging treatment they need to get back on their paws.
