Leaving a legacy

When you give a gift in your Will to Battersea, you give a lifeline to lost and abandoned dogs and cats at a time when they need it most.

You’ll never stop caring - neither will we

Since 1860, Battersea has given hope to over 3.1 million dogs and cats. We aim to never turn away an animal in need of help. With your help, we never will.

Last year we cared for over 7,000 animals and around a third of these were looked after thanks to gifts in Wills. We rely on the generosity and support of animal lovers like you to continue to be here for every single dog or cat who needs our help.

By remembering Battersea in your Will, your incredible gift, whatever size, will transform the lives of countless dogs and cats and give them the second chance they so desperately deserve – now and for many years to come.

One incredible gift

We are so grateful to Battersea supporter, Joan Strutt, who recently passed away and left her whole estate to our dogs and cats. Born in Woolwich in 1927, Joan was passionate about animals for her entire life. She spent her retirement working part-time in an animal welfare charity shop and owned two little Yorkies of her own – Star and Sky.

Her incredible act of kindness means the world to our dogs and cats and will be absolutely invaluable to giving them their happy endings. To express their thanks, Sally the greyhound attended Joan’s funeral, accompanied by a few two-legged members of the Battersea family.

How to leave your gift

If you would like to leave a gift to our dogs and cats, we recommend you consult a solicitor who can advise on wording to ensure that your wishes are carried out exactly as you want them to be.

You will need to take the following details with you:

Battersea Dogs & Cats Home, 4 Battersea Park Road, London, SW8 4AA

An example of wording you could use:

I leave my / X share (s) of my residuary estate for the Battersea Dogs & Cats Home, 4 Battersea Park Road, London SW8 4AA, registered charity number 206394 (England and Wales), absolutely for its general charitable purposes and I declare that the receipt of the treasurer or other proper officer for the time being shall be a sufficient discharge to my executors.

Don’t forget your pet

One of the reasons for making a Will is to ensure that your loved ones are taken care of should you pass away before them. This is equally important for pet owners who wish to ensure that if the worst does happen there will be someone to care for and love their treasured companion.

Battersea’s Forever Loved scheme gives peace of mind that, should the worst happen, Battersea will be there to care for and rehome your beloved pets. It’s a simple thing to do as well; when making or amending your Will, state that you want Battersea Dogs & Cats Home to find your dog(s) or cat(s) loving new homes.
